Christmas tradition #3

Christmas cut out cookies. Boy did we have a great big, fun, messy time making them this year. No matter what other new holiday cookie recipe I may try  we will probably always make these. I don't often think to break out my giant basket of cookie cutters during the year but it's one of the first things we do in December.
We learned about taking turns, about how yum cookie dough is, and how flour is not good for tasting.
Waiting, watching.
B- "please can I have the pink"
A - "Oh yes, hear you go"
B- "Oh Thank you sister"
Well, I guess they really are learning something

"Don't father (bother) me, I'm tasting"
They look so yummy

They taste even better.
Umm, yes they are licking the table.
Here is the recipe for the yummiest Christmas cookies ever if you want to try them yourselves.
Puffy Sugar Cut-outs
3 1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup butter (not margarine), soft
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream
Cream butter in electric mixer. Add sugar, egg, vanilla and beat well. Beat in sour cream.
Combine all dry ingredients and add gradually to the mix. Chill for an hour. Roll out on lightly floured surface to 1/4 in thick cut with cookie cutters bake on sprayed cookie sheets at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 min.

Cream cheese glaze
3 Tbs whole milk
2 Tbs cream cheese, soft
1 1/2 cup Confectioners sugar

mix together cream cheese and 2 Tbs milk with a large spoon or whisk until smooth. Add sugar and mix until smooth. Add extra milk if needed to make desired consistency.
These freeze well if you freeze them separately first before storing.

Of course, they need to lick the table. You can't let all those sprinkles go to waste. :-)
